Eric Wright Construction is supporting the Friends of Energy House 2.0.

This is a community of industry partners committed to tackling climate change inclusive of small and larger organisations.

The initiative aims to drive the research of Energy House 2.0, which is a GBP16m test and research facility, due to open at the University of Salford this autumn.

The ambition of this initiative is to work together for collective action. Other contributors in the scheme include Barratt Developments, Bellway, Bowker + Kirkland, Build Test Solutions, Electricity North West, Seddon and others.

To become a Friend, we have donated to a fund which will focus on driving the activity of the new facility and enhancing the social impact by funding: A STEM PhD studentship

Educational outreach programmes

Student and local community initiatives

It's been identified that the energy efficiency workforce needs to be diversified. In the UK alone, there is a need for 400,000 roles within the Net Zero Energy Workforce over the next 30 years. To meet the demand, we must improve diversity within the sector and open new avenues for more talent.

The fund will be specifically focused on attracting and supporting more females in the STEM and energy efficiency sectors. In addition to the STEM PhD Studentship which will cover the tuition fees for a PhD researcher to work at the Energy House Labs alongside their renowned academic team.

In addition, the initiative will fund educational outreach programmes in local Schools within the region. YouGov and Oxfam conducted research which found 75% of teachers feel they haven't received adequate training to enable them to educate students on climate change. A further 69% of teachers believe more education around climate change is needed in UK schools. These outreach programmes will help to close that gap.

Alongside outreach programmes, Energy House 2.0 will partner with schools and non-profit organisations on educational projects integrated into the curriculum, equipping and empowering young people with the skills, knowledge, and tools to learn about, question and find solutions to some of the key challenges in the industry.

Phil Brown, Commercial Director at Eric Wright Construction added: 'We are pleased to be a Friend of Energy House 2.0. Working collaboratively on this initiative is a great opportunity for us to make impactful change in working towards net zero. Alongside our own sustainability goals, the project is closely aligned with our social value strategy and will help us make a difference in the communities in which we work, as well as providing opportunities for people to learn and improve their future prospects. We can't wait to see the results of this initiative come to life.'
