In a business trip to Dong Thap province on March 29, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited two typical local co-operative economic models and cooperatives operating in agriculture. One of them is the rice production field applied 4.0 technology, developed by Vietnam Rice Company Limited (Vinarice) of Vinaseed - a member of The PAN Group, in collaboration with the authorities of Thap Muoi district and My Dong Agricultural Service Co-operative 2.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the cooperative's effective operation by applying science and technology in production, cost saving, environment protection and production optimization.

The cooperative had performed well in both input and output services, promoting linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses, focusing on clean production and improving the quality and value of rice varieties to meet export standards. This was the basis to increase incomes for farmers and help co-operative members feel more secure to continue joining the cooperatives.

The President said that this was also an effective model with social and environmental significance that Dong Thap Province needed to scale up to improve the lives of farmers.

The 4.0 rice field model utilizes VINARICE's high-quality and high-yield rice varieties in combination with the application of modern information technology and machinery to support the management process of rice production (water, fertilizer, environmental indicators, the pH measure, ...) to take appropriate actions for the growth, quality, and yield of plants.

Thanks to process synchronization, one single machine can play key roles in different stages such as transplanting, burying fertilizers, and spraying pre-emergent weed killers. This makes it easier to apply IPM integrated pest management practices.

In addition, drones for spraying plant protection drugs were used in this model. By applying the alternating wet and dry management system with cloud computing technology, the farmers, no matter where they are, can pump or drain the water out of the field by using their smartphones.

The implementation of the 4.0 rice field model helps farmers reduce the cost of fertilizers and pesticides as well as work days for cultivation, meanwhile, the fact that this pilot model does not use pesticides 40 days after transplanting and 20 days before harvesting... contributes to the protection of natural enemies, the environment, and people's health.

Moreover, the farmers are happier because Vinarice takes responsibility for their output and the selling price ensured by Vinarice is VND 500-900/kg higher than the market price.
