PHILADELPHIA, July 20, 2021 - Affordable access to the visual and performing arts, including storytelling through the forms of theatre, dance, poetry and multicultural productions are among the plans for 40 arts organizations receiving more than $1 million in grants through PNC Arts Alive. Now celebrating 13 years of funding support for the region's creative and cultural arts community, the latest PNC Arts Alive grant portfolio is one of the largest announced since the program's inception.

'We've long recognized just how vital the arts and cultural sector is to our community. The PNC team is once again excited to support the arts and cultural organizations visual and performing arts in the Delaware Valley,' said Joe Meterchick, PNC regional president for Philadelphia, Delaware and Southern New Jersey. 'Arts and culture strengthen the local economy and have the power to bring people together. As we look forward to resuming everyday activities, we invite our neighbors to join us and be a part of art.'

Arriving at a time when nearly all arts organizations are navigating a path to recovery as the pandemic environment eases, the latest PNC Arts Alive portfolio demonstrates the resiliency of the arts sector. Projects supported cover a wide range of disciplines, audiences and participatory experiences across the Greater Philadelphia, Delaware and Southern New Jersey region. Programs will feature lively community celebrations welcoming guests back to museums and arts venues, Shakespeare and opera under the stars, free or discounted theatre tickets for the region's front-line and essential personnel, as well as an array of exhibitions and live productions that tell the story of African American, LatinX and other previously underrepresented cultural communities.

PNC Arts Alive CONNECT, an additional component introduced in 2019, continues through the current funding cycle. It once again will provide further support for smaller, community-based arts and culture organizations that typically operate outside of Center City.

Since its debut in 2009, PNC Arts Alive has provided more than $13 million in grant funding to support some 300 arts programs at 90 organizations.

PNC Arts Alive is a multi-year initiative of PNC and the PNC Foundation dedicated to supporting visual and performing arts groups with the goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways. The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture.
