Toyota Tsusho Signs Basic Agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to Supply COVID-19 Vaccines to Developing Countries 2021-06-03

Toyota Tsusho Corporation ('Toyota Tsusho') announced today that it has signed a basic agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance ('Gavi')*1 in May 2021 to donate 100 million yen to Gavi COVID-19 Vaccines Advance Market Commitment ('Gavi COVAX AMC')*2 and provide five refrigerated vaccine transport vehicles.

Gavi, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other organizations have established a framework that purchases COVID-19 vaccines using funds from donors--such as countries and international organizations--and supplies them to 92 developing countries. The framework seeks to supply 1.8 billion doses, equivalent to approximately 30% of the population in developing countries, by the end of 2021.

To help this framework and its activities, which Toyota Tsusho supports, an agreement has been signed with Gavi. Toyota Tsusho will provide five units of its refrigerated vaccine transport vehicles--the only one in the world to have obtained Performance, Quality and Safety (PQS) prequalification for quality of medical devices and equipment as set by WHO--to five countries in Africa through Gavi. Gavi will conduct field driving tests for one year.

Toyota Tsusho will provide assistance to supply COVID-19 vaccines to developing countries, and at the same time, undertake initiatives to contribute toward global health.
