PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN) on Tuesday reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $127.3 million.

The Philadelphia-based company said it had profit of $1.28 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 79 cents per share.

The clothing and accessories retailer posted revenue of $1.16 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.08 billion.

Urban Outfitters shares have increased 59% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has risen 19%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $40.65, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
