Vector is undertaking civil enabling works for reinforcement and electricity asset replacement on our network.

In collaboration with Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and Watercare, Vector will be doing work in midtown, currently planned for 27 December to 15 January.

Vector will be locating and moving underground utilities to make way for the construction on Victoria Street and get ready for CRL. It will also upgrade some of the underground services.

This work is likely to include excavation, cabling and duct installation between 27 December and 15 January at:

  • Victoria Street, between Elliot Street and Kitchener Street

  • Wellesley Street, between Elliot Street and Bledisloe House

  • Wakefield and Airedale Streets and the adjoining sections of Queen Street

  • Localised works on the street at 85 Greys Ave, intersection of Queen & Waverly St, and the intersection of Wakefield and Mayoral Dr

What will happen over December/January

  • Work hours and noise minimisation - most of the work will happen between 7am and 10pm. There will be low to medium noise on an intermittent basis during these times.

  • Traffic management - traffic management will be in place to allow crews to work safely. Traffic controllers will be on site to assist with traffic flows as needed. There will be road closures on Elliot Street and one-way restrictions in place.

  • Outages - there are no planned outages associated with these works.

  • Excavation work - there will be an excavation area as part of the work which will create occasional noise.

  • Pedestrian management - parts of the footpath may need to be closed temporarily for pedestrian safety.

Why this work happens over the holiday period

While disruption over the holiday period is not ideal for those living and working in the neighbourhood, by getting a head start on work on roads while vehicle traffic is at lower volumes, Vector can get it done quicker, avoid noisy night-time work, create less overall disruption and reduce the risk of delays to other projects. We will do our best to minimise the disruption to neighbours while we complete this essential work.
