Awarding of the call for tender organised by Nigeria Vergnet wins a €20 million contract to build a 10 MW wind farm

Ormes, 1 July 2009.

The Federal Executive Council of Nigeria has just awarded Vergnet a contract worth over €20 million involving the design, construction, installation and maintenance of a 10 MW wind farm comprising 37 medium power wind turbines (275 kW GEV MPs) in Katsina State in Northern Nigeria.

This decision concludes the call for tender by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Energy in 2008, which is part of a €600 million-plus plan to provide for the country's growing energy needs.

The specifications allow Vergnet a period of twenty months from the date of signature of the contract, which should take place over the coming months.

The project is being financed by the Nigerian government and does not involve any other financial backers.

Marc Vergnet expressed his delight at winning this contract: "In this call for tender, Vergnet technology stood out from the conventional technologies offered by our competitors, in particular in terms of transportation and installation costs. We have thus once again shown the aptness of our positioning in the FARWIND market, which is characterised by difficult-to-access areas with limited infrastructure. After Ethiopia, this is Vergnet's second wind power project in Africa. It is a continent that we know well, as the Group has been working there for some twenty years through its Vergnet Hydro subsidiary, which currently supplies water to 40 million people."
