Voestalpine AG reported earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2023. For the third quarter, the company reported sales was EUR 3,874.8 million compared to EUR 4,290 million a year ago. Net income was EUR 75.9 million compared to EUR 110.3 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was EUR 0.47. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was EUR 0.43. Basic earnings per share was EUR 0.45 compared to EUR 0.66 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share was EUR 0.41 compared to EUR 0.66 a year ago.
For the nine months, sales was EUR 12,387.6 million compared to EUR 13,585.2 million a year ago. Net income was EUR 347.6 million compared to EUR 787.8 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was EUR 2.06 compared to EUR 3.93 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was EUR 1.99 compared to EUR 3.93 a year ago. Basic earnings per share was EUR 2.03 compared to EUR 4.46 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share was EUR 1.96 compared to EUR 4.46 a year ago.
Voestalpine AG is one of the European largest steel makers. Net sales break down by family of products as follows:
- flat steel (32.6%): hot and cold laminated steel, galvanized steel, sheet metal, etc.;
- long steel (21%): steering systems, rods, non-welded tubes, etc.;
- special steel (18.9%);
- steel components (18.6%);
- other (8.9%).
Net sales break down by market into automotive (31.6%), oil industry (15.4%), rail transportation (10.3%), construction (10.1%), civil and mechanical engineering (10%), household appliances (4.4%), aerospace (2.2%) and other (16%).
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: Austria (7.5%), Europe (54.5%), North America (17.2%), Asia (6.9%), South America (4.6%) and others (9.3%).
