Voltalia signs 20-year solar PPA with 11 French firms

(Montel) French renewables firm Voltalia has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with 11 French companies for the output of a planned 56 MW solar farm in southern France, the company said on Monday.

This was the "first green multiple-purchaser PPA in Europe", a new kind of contract created last year by Voltalia and Credit Lyonnais (LCL). The bank will underwrite the PPA as well as being a client.

The companies also include airline Air France as well as tinned and frozen vegetable producer Bonduelle.

Multiple-client PPAs would give medium-sized enterprises the same ability as large corporations - such as telecommunications group Orange or railway SNCF - to "secure long-term supply of renewable power produced in France, [with both] price and capacity guaranteed," said partners Voltalia and LCL.

Voltalia is present in 20 countries, with over 1.9 GW of operating and under-construction renewable capacity and 10.7 GW of projects under development, it said.
