Waste Connections, Inc. announced earnings results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2021. For the second quarter, the company announced sales was USD 1,533.931 million compared to USD 1,305.782 million a year ago. Operating income was USD 266.788 million compared to operating loss of USD 232.357 million a year ago. Net income was USD 177.047 million compared to net loss of USD 227.072 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was USD 0.68 compared to basic loss per share from continuing operations of USD 0.86 a year ago. For the half year, sales was USD 2,929.874 million compared to USD 2,658.187 million a year ago. Operating income was USD 505.160 million compared to operating loss of USD 15.394 million a year ago. Net income was USD 337.356 million compared to net loss of USD 84.037 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was USD 1.29 compared to basic loss per share from continuing operations of USD 0.32 a year ago.
Waste Connections, Inc. is a Canada-based integrated solid waste services company. The Company provides non-hazardous waste collection, transfer and disposal services, including by rail, along with resource recovery through recycling and renewable fuels generation. The Company's segments include Southern, Western, Central, Eastern, Canada and MidSouth. Its residential services include residential garbage pickup, residential yard waste, residential recycling, residential dumpster rental, bulk pickup, and portable toilets. Its commercial services include commercial business waste collection, commercial recycling, shredding, commercial roll off dumpster rental, and others. It also provides non-hazardous oilfield waste treatment, recovery and disposal services in several basins across the United States, as well as intermodal services for the movement of cargo and solid waste containers in the Pacific Northwest.
