Milan, September 10, 2021 - The PIMBY (Please In My Back Yard) Green 2021 awards have been assigned, highlighting three infrastructure projects built by the Webuild Group. Of the 11 awards assigned, Milan's M4 metro line, the Genova San Giorgio Bridge and the Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity rail line distinguished themselves in terms of sustainability. The awards were given out by FISE Assoambiente, a national association of environmental service providers, for public administration entities, businesses, associations and journalists committed to promoting the development and revival of Italian industry.
These three acknowledgments confirm the value of the strategic choices made by Webuild, which has continued to invest in building works using a methodology that lends particular attention to sustainability during the construction phase in addition to focusing on projects with a strong sustainability component when they become operational.
Webuild recently launched a new ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Plan with 2021-2023 sustainability targets as well as improving social and environmental performance indices that confirm the Group's strategy, which is increasingly focused on reaching sustainable development targets set by the United Nations. The plan illustrates a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability, safety and inclusion, and technological innovation within the Progetto Italia initiative and globally.
The M4 line was awarded recognition because its 'construction will reduce traffic to the benefit of public transport with considerable benefit for the environment as well as those who live and work in Milan.' The prize was received by the Municipality of Milan, which commissioned the project under development by Concessionaire M4, in which the Municipality is a shareholder together with a group of private companies led by Webuild.
The Genova San Giorgio Bridge was awarded recognition 'for its construction in record time, thanks to a construction site that remained open seven days out of seven (with shifts that covered 24 hours) and the involvement of 1,200 people'. The award was received by Genoa City Mayor Marco Bucci, valuing the contribution made by more than 300 businesses in the supply chain that collaborated with Webuild on the project.
The new Naples Bari high-speed/high-capacity railway was awarded recognition because once completed it will allow travelers to reach either city in two hours and Rome in three. The award was received by the client Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), giving value to the strategic role that mobility will have for the social and economic development of southern Italy. Several important sections of this a project are being built by Webuild.
