Group renews sustainability commitment to culture and community

MILAN, January 18, 2022 - Webuild is leading a new international project with the Scuderie del Quirinale as sponsor of "Superbarocco. Splendore genovese da Rubens a Magnasco" (Super Baroque. Genoese Splendour from Rubens to Magnasco), an art exhibit that will run between March 25, 2022 and July 3 in Rome. This illustration of the barocco, one of the greatest periods of splendour for Italy, and especially Genoa, serves as a source of inspiration for the launch of the country's economy and employment. Less than a year after "Raffaello. 1520-1483", Webuild supports art and culture, illustrating a period for Italy and Genoa that was charged with energy and enthusiasm because the past can serve as an example as we look towards the future.

"We want to increment our presence in the Ligurian region, where we are developing one of the most important projects in Italy: the Terzo Valico dei Giovi-Genoa Hub One Project, the high-speed railway that will link Genoa and Milan. We are at the disposal of the region ready and available to build other projects that contribute to the return of the region and the city of Genoa to being a development hub for Italy and Europe thereby overcoming the geographic obstacles that penalise it compared with the rest of Europe, with projects in the sector of railways, roads and ports. This region represents fertile ground for a new model of collaboration between the public and private sectors. It already worked with the Genova San Giorgio Bridge that established the basis for a new model of virtuous collaboration, based on shared objectives and continuous research for the right and fair solution for all concerned. In other words, a new model based on competence and reciprocal trust, a model we are applying in other countries like Australia and the United States", said Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of Webuild.

The exhibit will put on display 120 works of art that illustrate the period of greatest splendour for Genoa, when the Republic reached the height of its powers in terms of economy, finance, culture and art between the 6th and 7th centuries. Economic wealth, intellectual fervor and the combination of various artistic expressions are what created the innovative Baroque language and set the foundations for the following artistic season. These elements characterize the exhibition bringing the public's attention to the wealth and splendour of the Genoese artistic community, from Rubens to Van Dyck, Grechetto to Magnasco. This extraordinary exhibition brings together works of art that are today held at the most prestigious museums and private collections of the world, in addition to Genoa.

The exhibition is the result of an institutional collaboration between the Scuderie del Quirinale and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., with a special collaboration from the city and the museums of Genoa. The Scuderie del Quirinale has also partnered with the city of Genoa for initiatives to be held locally.

The exhibition on Genoese Baroque is part of Webuild's Culture Agenda, a series of initiatives that over the years have contributed to the promotion of culture in the world: from the Raffaello Sanzio exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome in 2020, to the multimedia exhibitions of public works of Beyond and Cyclopica at the Triennale di Milano. Whereas Spazio Ponte was a permanent interactive exhibit about the construction of the Genova San Giorgio Bridge; events accompanying the publication of a book celebrating the orchestral conductor Arturo Toscanini, held at New York and Washington, D.C.; and an exhibition on the rescue of the Abu Simbel temples in Egypt held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the operation at the Egypt Museum in Turin. In July 2021, the Group brought to Rome the Ponte Farnese, a temporary installation by French artist Olivier Grossetête in collaboration with the French Embassy. In October, it contributed to We Love Art, an international project organised by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) that involved works by young contemporary artists inspired by the production processes of big Italian companies, including Webuild.
