Wesizwe presents at The Junior Indaba 2016

Why Resources, Why Africa, Why Now? That was the theme for this year's Junior Indaba, held at the Johannesburg Country Club on the 01 - 02 June.

The event, aimed at getting junior mining companies, explorers and prospectors, government, business, investors and legends who have been junior miners before, saw distinguished guests such as the African Union (AU) Chair, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, sharing their insight on the broader African state of economy and how mining has been playing and still can play a big part in the up-liftment of the continent.

'Africa is rich in minerals, it ranks in the top five in the world with minerals, the people are however, poor, countries are least developed. We all need to work together to reverse this paradox', she said stating the importance of working together between relevant departments within government and the mining sector.

There is huge support for junior mining and exploration, even from the investor side. They pinpointed the downside of things at this point where commodity prices are concerned but they also pledged support for explorers.

Deputy Minister for the Department of Mineral Resources, Godfrey Oliphant also spoke about the importance of good relations between government and the mining sector, 'this will determine the sector's comeback as the investors' confidence will be restored.' He concluded by saying that as the country and the industry we need to take more risks and persevere and embrace technological innovations.

Wesizwe showcase

On the second day, junior miners showing off what they do and sharing lessons with those considering prospecting and exploring the mineral world. Projects Executive: Jacob Mothomogolo also presented about the BPM project, showing off the status of the project and the different milestones we have reached since its inception. Amongst other things, BPM has made provision for water supply for the project and two communities within Bakubung ba Ratheo.

'The pipeline projects will supply the mine and two neighboring communities', he said. In his conclusion he stated the importance of consistently scanning the environment, 'Continuous Improvement is key at the project development phase, we need to continuously scan the environment and change things as we move along.'

Key milestones for 2016

- Continue with Main shaft commissioning and flat development through services shaft

- Implement Operational Readiness program and reviewed continuously

- Commission Permanent power and water supply to the mine and housing

The platform to present the Wesizwe/BPM development path in the junior mining indaba proved to be a valuable networking and company brand profiling opportunity.
