BRISBANE - 16 May 2014

In the battle of the major cities, Adelaide reigns supreme when it comes to hotel review score, according to data from leading travel website Wotif.com.

Wotif.com, which is #1 for Australian hotel reviews with more real reviews than any other site, has analysed its database of more than 950,000 Aussie hotel reviews, as of May 2014, in the ultimate battle of the cities.

Adelaide has narrowly pipped Hobart at the post to rank number one* with a review score of 4.13 (out of 5) compared to Hobart's 4.11, both above the overall national score of 4.07.

Product Director, Donna Rodios said while the review scores between Adelaide and Hobart were extremely close, there could only be one winner.

"Adelaide has come out on top, with the highest score of any state capital and has been rated higher by couples than any other traveller type," Ms Rodios said.

"Proving it's not only a great travel destination but that it also ticks all of the boxes, it's no wonder Adelaide was named one of the world's top 10 cities to visit this year.

"Wotif.com has also just launched Adelaide holiday packages, combining the best flight and hotel deals, so there's never been a better time to head there."

Ms Rodios said when it came to the other major cities, the scores were all fairly close.

"The trend has seen couples leaving the highest score across Australia, with the exception of friends ranking Melbourne and Canberra highest and groups favouring Darwin. It's interesting to see business travellers left the lowest review scores across the country," she said.

"Out of all Australian hotel reviews, women have written 32 per cent more reviews than men and as a result all capital cities were voted higher scores by women.

"As far as the Bledisloe Cup of reviews is concerned, New Zealand has beaten Australia with a overall national score of 4.16, compared to Australia's score of 4.07."
