X5 Retail Group N.V. announced another milestone in developing its logistics infrastructure in the Siberian Federal District with the opening of a distribution centre (DC) in the Omsk Region to serve its Pyaterochka retail chain. The 29,000-square metre distribution centre in Omsk features six storage areas: these include warehouses for dry goods and alcohol, as well as storage areas for fresh products, frozen foods, confectionery, and fruits and vegetables. Each section has special temperature conditions necessary to keep products fresh.

At full capacity, the distribution centre will process 2,500 tonnes of shipments daily and serve up to 600 stores. Currently, the centre serves all 204 Pyaterochka stores in the Omsk Region, as well as 27 stores in the Novosibirsk Region. The new DC will enable Siberian manufacturers to cut their transportation costs and expand their sales footprint.

At the moment, the logistics hub handles shipments from more than 290 suppliers, with a potential to grow this number to 500 in the future. In addition, the DC will further increase the share of Siberian producers, which currently exceeds 30%. The DC's seamless operation is ensured by 270 employees.

The Pyaterochka chain provides a total of over 2,700 jobs for local communities in the Omsk Region.
