MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Xcel Energy Inc. (XEL) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $649 million.

On a per-share basis, the Minneapolis-based company said it had profit of $1.18.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.20 per share.

The utility posted revenue of $4.08 billion in the period, beating Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.6 billion.

Xcel expects full-year earnings to be $3.14 to $3.19 per share.
