Yamato Transport and DeNA are planning to co-develop a self-driving vehicle to test a door-to-door parcel delivery service from March 2017. For the field trials, the companies will operate the self-driving vehicle inside one of the government-designated deregulation zones in which such vehicles are allowed to run on public roads. The test vehicles will operate in self-driving mode only along parts of the delivery routes and will have a driver behind the wheel at all times.
