ABB Ltd. said Friday that it is investing $30 million in a new production site for electrical-vehicle charging components in Italy.

The Swiss engineering company said the new plant in San Giovanni Valdarno is set to be operational by the end of 2021. It will produce the company's entire portfolio of direct-current electric-vehicle battery chargers, ABB said. The new plant will also host research-and-development activities and will be equipped with renewable energy sources to offset its environmental impact, according to the company.
