Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN) Chief Executive Jeffrey Bezos last year received $1.68 million in total compensation, the same amount he did the prior year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Bezos received a base salary of $81,800 and other compensation worth $1.6 million. The other compensation reflects costs to Amazon for security for Bezos, in addition to security arrangements provided at business facilities and for business travel.
While Bezos' compensation makes him one of the lowest paid chief executives at a large public company, he is also sitting on billions of dollars in paper profits given his beneficial ownership of 87,987,118, or 19.5%, of Amazon shares. Amazon's stock was recently trading at $189.27.
