SHEFFIELD, UK, 19 FEBRUARY 2020- AMETEK Land, a leader in industrial infrared non-contact temperature measurement, will reveal its enhanced Slag Detection Systemwith IMAGEPro-SDS Softwareat AISTech 2020, happening 4 to 7 May in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

AMETEK Land's Slag Detection System (SDS)is a continuous thermal imaging system, which provides accurate and timely detection of slag carryover during tapping or pouring of liquid steel and other metals, allowing plants to deliver improved yields, higher-quality products and a reduction in costly downstream additional processing.

These latest improvements include:

  • Higher resolution, 307,200 (640x480) pixel thermal image - allowing temperature measurement from more radiometric-calibrated points.
  • Larger Field of View (12ox 9o) - giving a wider sight of the steel stream.
  • Faster framerate - detecting more detail in full frame mode.
  • Improved heavy-duty mounting and enclosure - suiting harsh industrial environments.
  • Advanced spectral filtering - providing a clearer view in environments where smoke is present.
  • Latest hardware, I/O modules, and digital interfacing - meeting Industry 4.0 demands.
  • Cutting-edge IMAGEPro-SDS software - delivering advanced image processing to control, monitor, analyse and capture data from the thermal imager.

AMETEK Land will also show its new Near Infrared Borescope thermal imaging camera, NIR-B-640, which is ideal for applications in reheat, continuous casting, heat treatment, and annealing furnaces. The NIR-B-640 imager provides continuous live radiometric images of the inside of a furnace. Using the powerful new IMAGEPro software, the NIR-B-640 displays accurate temperatures of the product or any other user-defined regions. For example, it can display the temperatures of the furnace walls or burner flames for combustion analysis and maintenance inspections. Operators can display multiple images from additional cameras on the same monitor, helping ensure the products are tracking through the furnace correctly and heated to the required temperature profile. Images are stored automatically as data files for future retrieval and analysis.

'We're looking forward to showcasing our wide range of innovations for the iron and steel industry at AISTech 2020,' said Peter Unwin, Global Industry Manager for AMETEK Land. 'We aim to lead the way in non-contact temperature measurement technology, enabling metal producers to optimise their manufacturing processes for products of the highest quality and best energy efficiency. We continue to develop temperature measurement solutions that enable producers to achieve cost savings. They can also benefit from accurate digital temperature measurements, ease of use and robust designs, backed by software that is second to none.'

AMETEK Land will exhibit its new Auto Pour Pyrometer System, which was introduced at the end of 2019 to accurately measure liquid metal stream temperatures whilst pouring into moulds without disruption to the casting process. The innovative Auto Pour Pyrometer System delivers these readings by providing one accurate value, which is measured and calculated for each pouring. The system generates readings by detecting the start and end of the pouring process and then taking the mean temperature of the stream during this time. It also monitors and outputs these readings for further analysis and storage.

Following its launch at AISTech 2019 to great interest from delegates, AMETEK Land will also showcase its SPOT GS again. The SPOT GS- part of the SPOT family of full-featured, high-performance pyrometers - is designed specifically to provide continuous, highly accurate measurement of coated steel strip temperature during galvanizing and galvannealing.

Combining cutting-edge, non-contact SPOT technology with specialised software algorithms, the SPOT GSprovides accurate temperature measurement, which is needed for close monitoring of the coating process. This enables automated furnace management that in turn delivers tighter control of product quality. Continuous online temperature measurement with the SPOT GS allows process line control systems to quickly and efficiently accommodate changes in strip dimensions or coating weight during the changeover between different customer orders.

Alongside AMETEK Land, its sister company AMETEK Surface Vision, the leading automated surface inspection partner for fast and accurate materials checking, will exhibit its surface inspection solutionsfor online detection, classification, and visualization of metal strip surface defects.

AMETEK Land and AMETEK Surface Vision will be showcasing all their latest innovations at booths 1271 and 1273.
