Jakarta, 4 February 2017 - PT Kalbe Farma, Tbk (Kalbe) in collaboration with the Indonesian Neurologists' Association (PERDOSSI) holds an educaitonal event on neurology in the Grand Kalbe Akademia seminar and workshop series with the theme 'Indonesian Neurologist Forum'.

'Kalbe has been consistently conducting health education as effort to assist to increase the general health of Indonesian toward a better life,' said Irawati Setiady, President Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. 'In this year's Grand Kalbe Academia, we are focusing on the discussion of neurological disorders in Indonesia, in hoping that it can be a comprehensive educational forum for Indonesian neurologists on neurological disorders to allow the creation of intensive interaction between the participants and practitioners,' Irawati added.

Kalbe Academia is one of Kalbe's programs as one of the efforts in supporting the Ongoing Doctors' Education for physicians as well as an effort to provide education for laypeople. Kalbe Academia has been held for more than 5 years, located at more than 47 cities and has involved approximately 50,000 participants both from medical professions or laypeople. Grand Kalbe Academia is held this year as the culmination of the entire Kalbe Academia series, with the theme Indonesian Neurologist Forum.

The choice of the theme 'Indonesian Neurologist Forum' is based from the data of World Health Organization (WHO) that states that neurological disorder is one of the biggest challenges in public health. This is largely caused by the high number of death and disabilities caused by neurological problems.. It is even stated that 8 out of 10 highest causes of disabilities came from neurological disorder. Furthermore, in a digital era such as the present day, where access to information is opened wide for everyone, one of the impacts is the .level of knowledge and demand from the laypeople to obtain a thorough therapy. This will eventually increase the demand on the role of Neurologists to provide best-integrated quality care for patients with neurological disorder.

As we all know, the neural system is a system that regulates and coordinates body activities which consists of central nervous system, i.e. brain and spine marrow, as well as peripheral nerves, which are nerves on other organs such as eye nerves, ear nerves, skin nerves, etc.

There are a number of neurological disorders that are often seen, e.g. stroke, neuropathic pain, epilepsy, cognitive disorder, head injuries, et al. In the epidemiologic data that is collected by WHO, it was discovered that the neurological disease that caused the highest number of disabilities in Asia or the world is stroke.

In Indonesia, Stroke is the largest cause of death in hospitals, at 15.4%. Based on the diagnosis by healthcare provider and reported symptoms in Riskerdas 2013, the prevalence of stroke in Indonesia is at 12.1 per 1,000 persons.

Grand Kalbe Academia - Indonesian Neurologist Forum is a continuous event conducted between Kalbe and Perdossi who has collaborated in a number of other events, e.g. Pain Learning Forum, Stroke Expert Meeting, to laypersons' education on epilepsy that collaborated with the Indonesian Epilepsy Foundation.

The speakers present at the seminar are, among others: (1) Prof. Dr. dr. Hasan Machfoed, Sp.S(K) with the theme Global Imperatives and Challenges Facing the Practice of Neurology; (2) dr.
