Naturgy Energy Group SA said Tuesday that it has set new medium-term goals to reduce emissions in line with global efforts to limit climate change.

The Spanish energy company said that, by 2022, it aims to cut its greenhouse-gas emissions by at least 21% compared to 2017 levels. It also plans to reduce the carbon-dioxide intensity of power generation by 22% and ensure that 34% of its generation capacity comes from renewable sources.

The company added that it aims to decrease water consumption by 20%, reduce total waste production by 70% and double the percentage of recycled and recovered waste by 2022.

Last month, Naturgy said it set up a sustainability committee to monitor and supervise the company through the energy transition away from fossil fuels.
