STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) _ United Rentals Inc. (URI) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $212 million.

On a per-share basis, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company said it had profit of $2.93. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $3.68 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.93 per share.

The equipment rental company posted revenue of $1.94 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.81 billion.

United Rentals expects full-year revenue in the range of $8.05 billion to $8.45 billion.

United Rentals shares have declined 2% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $163.42, an increase of 27% in the last 12 months.
