The company's controlling shareholder is JAB Holding Company, and its ambition is to create the leading pet insurance and health services platform in Europe. The company was founded in 2021 by Han de Groot and Nico Schuurbiers through a joint venture with BNP Paribas Cardif, which transferred the majority ownership of Cardif Pinnacle to JAB. In July 2022, JAB and Pinnacle Pet Group announced the acquisition of Agila Tierversicherung AG, the German activity in pet insurance from the Wertgarantie Group.
