They maintain vehicles with a broad range of services, parts and accessories. Safe, efficient transportation is essential to keeping their economy moving. It is the parts in a vehicle that make it safe and economical to use. Parts suppliers are the backbone of the vehicle manufacturing industry and the country's manufacturing base. The industry constitutes the largest manufacturing sector in the United States, directly employing nearly 686,000 individuals across the country and contributing to more than 3.29 million jobs. Without the contributions of the nation's parts suppliers, domestic vehicle manufacturing and maintenance would almost certainly grind to a halt, adversely affecting the way company drive and go about their daily lives. The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) has represented parts suppliers since 1904.
