M. Patricia Beckman

Dr. Patricia Beckmann is a biochemist with more than 20 years of research and leadership experience in the biomedical industry.
At Vulcan Capital, she is responsible for the scientific assessment of venture investment opportunities in the life sciences sector.
Prior to joining Vulcan, Dr. Beckmann held various management positions at Immunex Corporation (now Amgen).
As a scientific liaison in research, administration and law, she was responsible for scientific diligence relating to intellectual property and technology assessment.
Her research efforts yielded one marketed product (Enbrel) and two clinical candidates (Nuvance and Mobista).
Dr. Beckmann worked as a director in a privately held real estate development corporation and has also served as a director in several not-for-profit organizations.
She was named National Inventor of the Year by the Intellectual Property Owners Association in 2001, and has over 50 scientific publications and more than 30 issued U.S.
patents.
Dr. Beckmann received a BA in biology and art from The Evergreen State College and a Ph.D.
in biochemistry and pharmacology from the University of Arizona.
She also pursued postgraduate studies as a Fulbright Scholar in Uppsala, Sweden, and as a visiting scientist at the National Cancer Institute.
