LIVONIA, Mich. (AP) _ Masco Corp. (MAS) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $224 million.

On a per-share basis, the Livonia, Michigan-based company said it had net income of 85 cents. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, were 84 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 71 cents per share.

The maker of Behr paint, Delta faucets and other building products posted revenue of $1.76 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.69 billion.

Masco shares have increased 17% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed almost 1%.
