WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) _ Enanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ENTA) on Tuesday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $14.3 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Watertown, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 71 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 73 cents per share.

The biotechnology company posted revenue of $18.7 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $29.9 million.

Enanta Pharmaceuticals shares have decreased 23% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $47.69, a decline of 30% in the last 12 months.
