JAKARTA, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Indonesia's consumption of palm oil-based biodiesel for the first nine months of this year was about 8.5 million kilolitres, an official said on Monday.

Edi Wibowo, a director at the energy ministry, told reporters for 2023, total consumption was seen at around 11.5 million kilolitres of 13.15 million kilolitres of biodiesel allocated for 2023.

The world's biggest palm oil producer has pushed a wide use of the palm oil based fuel to reduce crude oil imports and shift to lower emission fuel.

In February, Indonesia raised its mandatory palm oil blend in biodiesel from 30% to 35%, a programme better known as B35.

B35 was only implemented in August, however, as some regions needed to upgrade infrastructure to meet the new requirement for the higher blend. (Reporting by Bernadette Christina; Editing by Martin Petty)
