STORY: Rescue teams in Iowa searched for survivors on Wednesday, after deadly tornadoes tore through the state, killing at least one person.

"Oh my god."

The Iowa State Patrol said it was still determining how many people were killed, injured and displaced by the twister which devastated the small farming town of Greenfield.

Homes were leveled, cars flipped over, and this gas station was badly damaged with a section of the roof falling down.

Residents tried to recover a few keepsakes from what was left of their houses.

The state declared a disaster emergency for the damaged areas and is seeking federal funding.

The National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm advisories for much of Iowa and several other Midwestern states on Tuesday, including parts of Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
