Somkid Jatusripitak also told reporters that strength in the baht was because of Thailand's "still good" economy, attracting foreign fund inflows.

He said he has asked the central bank to closely monitor the baht, which has risen about 5.6% against the dollar this year, making it Asia's best performing currency.

"The central bank knows what they are doing, so politics should not interfere in its duty," he said.
