NEW ALBANY, Ohio (AP) _ Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF) on Tuesday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $2.2 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The New Albany, Ohio-based company said it had a loss of 4 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 1 cent per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 13 cents per share.

The teen clothing retailer posted revenue of $880.1 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $829.3 million.

Abercrombie shares have dropped 47% since the beginning of the year. The stock has declined 59% in the last 12 months.
