ABN AMRO has obtained 76 out of a maximum of 100 points in the latest rating of S&P Global's Corporate Sustainability Assessment. S&P Global announced the scores on 12 November. This score means that the bank will be included in the S&P Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI is the most important yardstick for the bank for gauging its sustainability performance.

Its score of 76 points probably puts ABN AMRO in the top 15%* of most sustainable banks worldwide. The score also means that the bank is no longer included in the DJSI World, but it is included in the DJSI Europe. The gap between ABN AMRO's rating and that of the industry leader is 13 points. ABN AMRO's score in 2020 was 77 points, after a revaluation following the settlement with the Dutch public prosecutor. The score for 2021 was also reduced for this reason, by 5 points.

ABN AMRO scored high in areas such as Sustainable Finance and Human Rights. There's scope to improve the bank's performance though, for example in reporting on Risk & Crisis Management and Financial Stability & Systemic Risk.

Every year, S&P Global researches over 5,000 international companies, assessing them on economic, social and environmental policy as well as governance factors.

Insight for investors and other parties

For investors and other stakeholders, ABN AMRO's position in the DJSI is an important tool for gaining insight into the bank's activities around sustainability. Its ranking is an important yardstick for the bank, too - ABN AMRO aspires to be in the top 5% of its own sector.

*In February 2022, ABN AMRO's final ranking relative to the rest of the sector will be announced.
