ACCIONA : Agua is awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of 15 wastewater treatment plants in the region of Madrid

The contract awarded by Canal de Isabel II Gestión represents revenues of 10.6 million euros in two years and will take effect on March 1st 2015.
ACCIONA Agua has been awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of fifteen wastewater treatment plants in the Cuenca Jarama Medio y Henares area managed by Canal de Isabel II Gestión.
The contract will take effect on March 1st 2015 and will last for two years, with a possible extension of another two years. ACCIONA's proposal represents revenues of 10.6 million euros, which could double if the extension is applied. It will provide a service to around one million people, with an annual throughflow rate of more than 75 million cubic meters a year.
Cuenca Jarama Medio y Henares is the biggest single batch of water treatment plants and sanitation systems of the four that Canal de Isabel II Gestión put out to tender, both in terms of revenues and treatment capacity. Through this contract, ACCIONA Agua consolidates and extends its presence in the treatment of wastewater in the region of Madrid.
ACCIONA will service fifteen wastewater treatment plants: Alcalá Este, Alcalá Oeste, EDAR Algete II, Campo Real, Cobeña, La Poveda, Loeches, Los Santos de la Humosa, Meco, Pozuelo del Rey, Ribatejada-Fresno, San Agustín de Guadalix, Torres de la Alameda, Valdeavero and Velilla de San Antonio.
La Alcalá Oeste plant is the one with the highest capacity, designed for 374,090 inhabitants and an annual flow rate of 15,120,903 m3. The facility is equipped with a comprehensive system that includes a biological treatment line, the elimination of nutrients, a sludge line, anaerobic digestion and cogeneration. This system is currently being installed by ACCIONA, as is the extension of the biological treatment system for the plant, through the award of the "Contract for the Project and Execution of Actions for the implementation of the national water quality plan for the Alcalá Oeste treatment plant". The contract includes the replacement of the four conventional biological treatment lines with a more advanced system.
The other wastewater treatment plants in the batch have different treatment processes for wastewater, with an estimated annual throughflow rate of treated water of 27,500,000 m3.
