FRISCO, Texas (AP) _ Addus HomeCare Corp. (ADUS) on Monday reported first-quarter earnings of $8.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Frisco, Texas-based company said it had net income of 53 cents. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions and stock option expense, came to 77 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 76 cents per share.

The provider of home-based personal care, nursing and rehabilitative therapy services posted revenue of $226.6 million in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $227.5 million.

Addus HomeCare shares have decreased roughly 10% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $84.31, a fall of 20% in the last 12 months.
