NEW TRAFFIC RECORD AT BOLOGNA AIRPORT:

EIGHT MILLION PASSENGERS REACHED TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN

HISTORY

Nearly 110 million passengers since 1933

Eight million passengers in one single year: this is Bologna Airport's (AdB) new record. With this result, in line with its yearly growth trend of 6.6%, AdB confirms its position on the market as one of the most dynamic and attractive Italian airports, through a successful mix of domestic and international destinations, legacy airlines and low cost carriers.

Bologna Airport, ranking fourth in Italy for world connectivity thanks to a portfolio of about a hundred destinations served with direct flights, has recently announced the start of five new routes to China from June 2018.

Mrs. Susanna Binelli, passenger arriving from Birmingham via Amsterdam is Bologna Airport passenger number "Eight Million". She has been offered by Air France two free tickets to Paris and has been greeted by Bologna Airport's Chairman Enrico Postacchini, CEO Nazareno Ventola, together with Aviation Business & Communication Director Antonello Bonolis.

This is the first time Bologna Airport has reached over eight million passengers in one single year. The previous traffic record was broken in 2016 with 7,680,992 passengers. Since its first commercial flight on 4th September 1933, AdB has experienced an increasingly rapid growth: in 1988, yearly passengers reached one million for the first time, two million in 1995, three in 1999, four in 2006, five in 2010, six in 2013 and seven last year, in November 2016.

Since 2008, AdB has experienced a growth in passenger traffic of 89.3%, which helped significantly to enhance the economic development and tourism industry of its catchment area. Overall, since the first passenger in 1933 up to now, almost 110 million passengers have travelled through Bologna Airport.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in 2016 was the seventh biggest Italian airport by passenger numbers, with more than 7.5 million passengers, of which 75% on international flights (Source: Assaeroporti). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.

In 2016 103 destinations were served from Bologna: the presence at the airport of some of the largest airlines in Europe along with some of the leading low-cost carriers and the close link with International hubs make Bologna Italy's fourth airport for global connectivity (Source: ICCSAI - Fact Book 2017) and the first in Europe in terms of growth of connectivity in the decade from 2004 to 2014 (Source: ACI Europe Airport Connectivity Report 2004-2014).

As for airport infrastructure, the airport has recently completed a major upgrade and expansion of the passenger terminal, while the capacity of aeronautical infrastructure is deemed adequate to accommodate the expected growth over the coming years. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
