TRACS Training holds workshop on Petrophysics for Reservoir ModellingPublished 25.07.2016
Workshop part of the Technical Programme at the annual gathering of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA).
AGR's training division, TRACS Training, was represented at the annual gathering of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) which this year took place between June 25 - 29 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The workshop was part of the Technical Programme and was organised and led by TRACS Training Tutor and Petrophysicist, Jenny Garnham and TRACS Training Director, Mark Bentley. The workshop was premised on the observation that petrophysics is often under-represented in the world of modelling and simulation. The focus of the day was therefore on how petrophysical inputs can get 'lost in communication' in the modelling process - why it happens and how to fix it.

The event drew on material from both the petrophysics and the reservoir model design courses, with a substantial amount of new material built by Jenny for the event.

Mark Bentley commented on the event, 'It is our long-held view that petrophysics is the least well represented discipline in reservoir modelling, in spite of the fact that modelling workflows reply heavily on - in fact often start with - petrophysical inputs. When modelling studies go astray it is often the mis-handling of petrophysical data which is the cause, so it was great to put together an event with Jenny, focussing on fixing that specific issue (and it can always be fixed). We need more petrophysical reservoir modellers! It was also a delight to be in Reykjavik on 27th June to see the Iceland-England match (even for English people) and of course to go geyser hunting'
