LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Allegiant Travel Co. (ALGT) on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $46.5 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Las Vegas-based company said it had a loss of $2.58 per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 54 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 47 cents per share.

The travel services company posted revenue of $560.3 million in the period, topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $556.6 million.

Allegiant Travel shares have fallen 61% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $72.57, a decrease of 60% in the last 12 months.
