CHICAGO (AP) _ Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. (MDRX) on Thursday reported a loss of $20.4 million in its first quarter.

The Chicago-based company said it had a loss of 13 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 9 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 14 cents per share.

The electronic health records company posted revenue of $416.7 million in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $421.6 million.

AllScripts shares have declined 40% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $5.89, a decline of 42% in the last 12 months.
