On April 11, 2024, Amazon.com Inc announced that it has received a shareholder proposal from John Harrington, requesting the Company to commission an independent study of Recognition and report to shareholders regarding: 1) the extent to which such technology may endanger, threaten or violate privacy and/or civil rights, and unfairly or disproportionately target or surveil people of color, immigrants and activists in the United States, 2) the extent to which such technologies may be marketed and sold to authoritarian or repressive governments, including those identified by the United States Department of State Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, 3) the potential loss of good will and other financial risks associated with these human rights issues. In addition, the Company recommended the shareholders to vote against the Proposal at the annual meeting of shareholders scheduled to be held on May 22, 2024.
