Axiom Space is choosing Amazon's AWS for its entire IT infrastructure.

The company that makes commercial manned space flights and builds a space station announced. More specifically, it's about the IT foundations that Axiom Space maintains on Earth. IT in space is a different business because of radiation.

The companies also promise each other that they will collaborate on hardware and software used in space. In terms of software, this primarily involves cybersecurity. In the hardware field, Amazon already has some experience. After all, in late October it launched two test satellites to beam commercial broadband to Earth.

Amazon will also have the opportunity within the contract to collaborate on the design of Axioms space station. In addition, they will design a data center to orbit Earth. To that end, for example, it did a test aboard the International Space Station ISS in 2022.

Axiom Space facilitates its customers in doing research on drugs, stem cells, regenerative medicines. Varda Space Industries has similar ambitions, but is having trouble getting permits. Varda is working with venture capital from Peter Thiel, one of the founders of Paypal.

Investors are putting eight billion dollars of venture growth capital into space start-ups by 2022.
