Madrid, 26 January 2022 - PRESS RELEASE
Santander Bank obtains the highest score in the financial industry and ranks second within the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) 2022, which recognizes excellence and commitment to equality, showing that the bank is at the forefront in this field. Inclusion in Bloomberg's Gender-Equality Index (GEI) is a landmark for companies worldwide and demonstrates their commitment to equality and advancing women in the workplace through policy development, representation and transparency.

Ana Botín, Santander Executive Chair, said: "The Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index sets an important benchmark for companies to evaluate internal practices. Being part of the Index demonstrates our commitment to supporting gender equality and creating an inclusive environment for all our employees."

In 2022 the index ranks 417 companies of 11 different sectors across 45 countries. This index measures gender-equality through five pillars: female leadership & talent pipeline, equal pay & gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand. Each category is measured from 0 to 100, the latter being the maximum score possible. Santander has achieved a total score of 90.26%. The bank has improved scoring in inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

Linked to its commitments for 2025, Santander is leading several initiatives regarding gender equality, such as closing the gender pay gap among employees or increasing the percentage of women in senior management positions to 30%. The group also set a target to increase women in its board of directors by 40%, which it has already achieved.

The bank has developed a series of initiatives and products to empower women financially, including Prospera in Brazil, Banca Women in Argentina, Generación81 in Spain or Select ME and Tuiio in Mexico. These programs support thousands of women each day. Among said initiatives, another one worth-noting is the launch of the first mutual fund in Spain with focus on companies supporting gender equality, the UN Womens' Empowerment Principles, and other programs contributing to accelerate the progress of women in society, such as the mentoring program "De Mujer a Mujer", which the bank has established alongside Fundación Integra in Spain to support victims of gender violence, or the program Reencuentra, which supports women who left their careers to get back into the labor market. Building an inclusive and diverse workplace is central to Santander's culture and values.

"We are proud to recognize Santander and the other 417 companies included in the 2022 GEI for their commitment to transparency and setting a new standard in gender-related data reporting," said Peter T. Grauer, chairman of Bloomberg and founding chairman of the U.S. 30% Club. "Even though the threshold for inclusion in the GEI has risen, the member list continues to grow. This is a testament that more companies are working to improve upon their gender-related metrics, fostering more opportunity for diverse talent to succeed in their organizations."
