  • The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 13.5% in August 2021, compared with 13.8% in the previous month.
  • The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 11.9%, compared with 11.0% in the previous month.
  • Deposits placed by the private sector increased by €1,480 million in August 2021, compared with an increase of €1,840 million in the previous month.
  1. Credit to the domestic economy

    Τhe monthly net flow of total credit was positive by €954 million, compared with a positive net flow of €687 million in the previous month.

    Ι.1 Credit to the general government

    InAugust 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to the general government was positive by €1,291 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,219 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 54.9% from 55.5% in the previous month.

    Ι.2 Credit to the private sector

    InAugust 2021, the annual growth rate of credit to the private sector decreased to 0.8% compared with 1.2% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was negative by €337 million, compared with a negative net flow of €532 million in the previous month.

    Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations

    InAugust 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to corporations was negative by €190 million, compared with a negative net flow of €313 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 3.7%, compared with 4.4% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased to 3.2%, compared to 4.2% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was negative by €228 million, compared with a negative net flow of €16 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased to 8.4% from 6.5% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €38 million, compared with a negative net flow of €297 million in the previous month.

    Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

    InAugust 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive by €2 million, compared with a negative net flow of €47 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 2.2% from 2.5% in the previous month.

    Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

    In August 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €148 million, compared with a negative net flow of €173 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate remained at -2.6%, unchanged from the previous month.

  2. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions

Τhe monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by €1,622 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,110 million in July 2021.

ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government

InAugust 2021, deposits placed by the general government increased by €142 million, compared with a decrease of €730 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -15.7%, compared with -19.2% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2 Deposits placed by the private sector

InAugust 2021, deposits placed by the private sector increased by €1,480 million, compared with an increase of €1,840 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 13.9% from 13.2% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits

InAugust 2021, corporate deposits increased by €1,386 million, compared with an increase of €1,053 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 25.9% from 24.8% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs increased by €1,011 million, against an increase of 560 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by €375 million, compared with an increase of €493 million in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions

InAugust 2021, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by €94 million, compared with an increase of €787 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 9.7% from 9.8% in the previous month.
