Beach Energy Engages with Community in Offshore Gas Victoria Project Consultations

Monday, 23 October 2023

Beach Energy says it has been positive hearing from the community about its next phase of offshore activity that will continuing meeting natural gas demand from homes, business and industry.

Beach Energy has been planning its next phase of offshore gas development called the Offshore Gas Victoria (OGV) Project.

A new consultation website called Engage Beach has been launched as part of the ongoing consultation which commenced in May and is currently promoting information on the OGV project.

A series of community information drop-in sessions have also recently been held across the South-Western region including at Port Campbell, Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Portland.

Sharon Donovan, Senior Community Relations Manager (Vic) emphasised the importance of these consultation sessions in encouraging transparent and inclusive conversations between the community and OGV project team. She stated, "Consultation sessions have provided the local community with an opportunity to learn more about the OGV Project, which covers multiple phases in Commonwealth waters. These phases include seabed assessments (non-seismic), drilling and connecting new wells, and removing suspended wells".

Consultation has been focussing on the seabed assessments and further engagement will be carried out as the OGV project continues. Ms Donovan encouraged community members to actively engage in the sessions, as they are a valuable platform for providing feedback, asking questions, and directly interacting with Beach's technical experts.

Ms Donovan further noted, "Consultation is an important part of developing our Environment Plans as it enables us to ensure we have thoroughly understood potential impacts to any persons or organisations functions, interests or activities, from the activities set out in the environment plans. And where we find there may be impacts, we look to developing measures to reduce impacts." .

"As Australia continues its transition to more renewable energy sources there is an ongoing need for natural gas for homes, business and industry."

"We look forward to our continued involvement with community about this project", said Ms Donovan.
