EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) _ C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. (CHRW) on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $173.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based company said it had net income of $1.28.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 97 cents per share.

The trucking company posted revenue of $4.8 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.37 billion.

C.H. Robinson shares have risen almost 3% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased 12%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $96.54, a climb of 30% in the last 12 months.
