Cal Water Begins Water Infrastructure Improvement Project to Support Carson Customers

TORRANCE, Calif. - As part of its commitment to ensure critical infrastructure remains safe and reliable, California Water Service (Cal Water) began a new water main replacement project in Carson. The upgrade will ensure local customers and firefighters continue to have the water they need for their everyday and emergency needs.

The project, which is expected to be completed in December, includes the installation of approximately 2,000 feet of new 12-inch ductile-iron water main. Crews will also replace 43 individual customer service connections and five fire hydrants as part of the project. Installation will take place near Bonita Street Elementary School and Carnegie Middle School, from the 21800 to 21900 blocks of Bonita Street and the 800 block of East Calbas Street.

'As essential service workers, our crews are committed to ensuring a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water remains accessible to Carson residents and businesses for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs, both now and for years to come,' said District Manager Dan Armendariz. 'This important infrastructure upgrade is part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers and to ensure first responders can protect the community in an emergency.'

Work will be performed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, particularly during school end times when campuses reopen. Crews will also limit any temporary service interruptions so that residents have the water they need during this time. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled during regular work hours.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.

Cal Water serves approximately 313,400 people through 87,900 service connections in its system and another 44,600 people through an operations and maintenance contract with the City of Hawthorne. Company-wide, Cal Water serves about 2 million people through 486,900 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1927.
