The world's largest clean energy corridor - China Three Gorges Corporation's cascade hydropower stations in the main stream of Yangtze River achieves their good start in the first quarter

2023-04-18

As of March 31, 2023, the six cascade hydropower stations of China Three Gorges Corporation in the main stream of Yangtze River have cumulatively generated power of 55.598 billion KWH in the first quarter, with a year-on-year growth of about 18.4%, equivalent to saving over 16 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 46 million tons. Calculated by each KWH of power generating CNY 14 of GDP, it can support China's GDP output of approximately CNY 778.4 billion. CYPC of China Three Gorges Corporation has taken multiple measures and completed high-quality tasks including ensuring power supply, water supply, shipping, and ecology, achieving a good start in the first quarter.

The power supply has been successfully guaranteed. Scientifically coordinate the maintenance schedule of cascade power stations and the power demands of the receiving areas, develop multiple power protection schemes, dynamically optimize the operation mode of cascade power stations, and enhance the peak power generation ability of units, to ensure that the power can be generated as much as possible. Up to 63 units of cascade power stations can operate at the peak to provide basic guarantee for the normal production and living power utility of residents in the receiving area.

The effect of replenishing water during the dry season is significant. Affected by the continuous drought days in summer and autumn last year, the incoming water from the Yangtze River Basin has been extremely dry. In order to solve the problem of tight supply and demand of water resources in the past winter and this spring, cascade reservoirs have made every effort to replenish water. As of March 31, a total of over 19 billion cubic meters of water have been replenished to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, equivalent to nearly 1,330 West Lakes, effectively raising the waterway depth and ensuring downstream water intaking requirements. In the first quarter, the shipping throughput of the Three Gorges Hub reached 39.8936 million tons, hitting a new high.

The ecologic regulation is promoted in an orderly manner. Pay close attention to changes in power grid load demand, firmly grasp the test window period, and timely carry out ecologic regulation experiments. Now the annual stop log gate layered water intaking ecologic regulation test for Wudongde, Baihetan, and Xiluodu Hydropower Stations is being carried out in an orderly manner according to the plan, and the Baihetan Hydropower Station has successfully conducted one base-load power generation ecologic regulation test.

CYPC of China Three Gorges Corporation will always keep a sense of responsibility and active spirit for precise scheduling, lean operation, and careful maintenance of the Pillars of a Great Power. On the basis of achieving a "good start" in the first quarter, it will strive to achieve the annual tasks and goals and fully give play to the comprehensive benefits of the world's largest clean energy corridor.

The world's largest clean energy corridor is composed of six cascade power stations, including Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba. It was fully completed and put into operation on December 20, 2022, with a total installed capacity of 71.695 million KW, equivalent to the installed capacity of three "Three Gorges". The annual average power generation of about 300 billion KWH can effectively alleviate the power shortage in central and eastern China, as well as provinces such as Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guangdong, playing an important role in ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
