  • 01 Jun 2021

Coats, the world's leading industrial thread company, has been certified as a 'Great Place to Work' in China

The Great Place to Work® organisation uses a combination of a Trust survey and Culture Audit to assess whether the culture meets the criteria to be a certified 'great place to work'. The Trust survey measures employee feedback by asking questions on the five areas of Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie, while the Culture Audit measures what managers do by assessing the people practices at Coats.

Bill Watson, Managing Director, China Cluster, Coats, said: 'We place great emphasis on creating a working environment in which people enjoy coming to work, can achieve their best and succeed. This recognition from Great Place to Work is testament that we are getting it right.'

Examples of initiatives and programmes that have been implemented in Coats China to support employee engagement include:

  • A programme of employee events including football camp, running club, Master Chef competition and kareoke sessions
  • Providing Covid care briefings and distributing Covid hygiene kits to protect employees and their families
  • Setting up a psychological health centre (Sunshine Mind Centre) and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Organising community events such as volunteers programme and embroidery training in schools
  • Annual employee recognition event

This latest announcement follows the Coats operations in both Sri Lanka and Brazil being certified in April. It was the fourth consecutive year that Coats Brazil achieved the recognition. Coats operations in a further 13 countries will be surveyed over the rest of 2021. Achieving 'Great Place To Work' or equivalent awards for all key sites by 2022 is one of the seven targets set by Coats in its 2019 Sustainability Strategy.

Coats China also recently relocated its Qingdao operations to a larger site providing its employees with a new and enhanced working environment.
