Their new Winkfield home features four well-proportioned bedrooms, meaning their children, Annabelle (6) and Nathan (2), have their own rooms and they even have enough space for guests to stay. It's also got its own home office for Daniel. Daniel explains their rationale for upsizing: "We previously lived in a small three bedroom semi-detached property. The third bedroom was just a box room, and we couldn't fit much in there. Although we had three bedrooms, only two were big enough to be used as bedrooms, which didn't provide us with enough living space once we had our second child. It also meant that my mum couldn't spend as much time visiting us as she'd liked to, so having a proper visitor-sized room for guests became a priority of ours. Having the dedicated study is perfect for me as I work from home, so it means I'm no longer stuck in the garage or dining room like I used to be!"
"We also needed enough space for our son to be able to run around. He's a really active child, and he was really constrained in our old property. Now, we've got a spacious landing, family room and plenty of outdoor space so he can use all of his energy up!"
Daniel adds: "We wanted a house that we could call home for a long time. We didn't want to be thinking about moving again in three or four years. We've now got somewhere we intend to stay!"
Daniel and Sheila's new home is the first new build property they've ever lived in, and they knew it would be a good investment for their family's future. Daniel explains, "We felt a new build would give us a house that was in style for a long time - it's been recently designed and built to high standards, and we knew it would comply with all the necessary regulation for years to come. Whereas for an older build, there would be quite a lot of maintenance work involved and other issues that might end up costing money down the line. A new build gives us more guarantee that the house won't give us any problems."
The family is also finding their new build property is helping them to reduce their energy consumption. Daniel says, "We don't use the heating as much living here, since the property is well insulated. Just having it on for a little while keeps the house warm for longer, compared to an older build where you have to keep it on constantly to get the same results. In the future, we're thinking about getting solar panels, and thanks to the electric vehicle charging point that came with the home, we're now planning to get an electric car too."
