Hong Kong, 27 Oct 2022 - DBS Hong Kong today announced the launch of 'DBS $0 Fee Account Opening offers'1 package to help SMEs stay ahead of the curve amid post-pandemic economic recovery. As 'Hong Kong's Best Bank'2 and 'World's Best SME Bank'3, DBS Hong Kong aims to alleviate local SMEs' challenges by providing a market-first, efficient and hassle-free business banking experience.

From now until 31 December 2022, new SME customers who successfully apply for an account will be eligible to enjoy a series of offers, including:

  • Free Telegraphic Transfers: Up to 50 Outward, 50 Inward Telegraphic Transfers for the first 6 months (valued at HK$54,000);
  • Free CHATS (Clearing House Automated Transfer System) for local TT, up to 50 times inward and outward, respectively, valued at HKD21,000;
  • Free FPS Payments: Up to 50 free HKD FPS payments per month by rebating HK$5 per transaction (valued at HK$3,000);
  • No fees charged if application is unsuccessful4.

The package aims to help SMEs save business operation costs and streamline their cashflow while facilitating smooth transactions locally and globally, so they can cope with their business expansion needs. With the acceleration in digitalisation, more and more SMEs have identified new business opportunities, such as from e-commerce, to grow beyond borders. According to an AON SME Survey commissioned by DBS5, 55% of SMEs are aiming to expand into new markets in the next 12 months, in which nearly all SME respondents are interested in tapping into another Asian market.

DBS is proud to be the first bank to start pilot trials with selected Hong Kong incorporated entities whose owners or directors are mainland China IDs holders; they will be able to open accounts fully digitally using our award-winning6 online account opening service. This initiative is meant to benefit more SMEs in Hong Kong to open business accounts via a straight-through and digital process.

Since COVID, DBS Hong Kong's digital account opening has jumped from 31% to 57% while digital lending has soared from 25% to 75%7.
